In the past day, a huge announcement arrived that surprised international football gamers. Konami revealed that they’ll have an exclusive partnership with the Juventus football club, giving them the rights to the team for Pro Evolution Soccer. Since PES 2020 is due out in the same month that competitor EA Sports’ game arrives, it left gamers wondering about the status of the team for FIFA. However, EA Sports has clarified things in terms of the FIFA 20 Juventus rights for the players and team name situation.
EA’s FIFA 20 Juventus rights for players
The FIFA 19 Standard, Champions, and Ultimate Edition covers famously featured superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo in his Juventus jersey on front. Under the new FIFA 20 Juventus rights, he’ll appear, but in a different-looking jersey and for a fictional football team.
On Tuesday, EA Sports released a statement regarding the FIFA 20 Juventus rights for their upcoming game. They indicated, “Following a close relationship with Juventus Football Club, EA SPORTS can confirm that June 30th marked the end of its partnership with the club.”
Since Konami announced an exclusive partnership with Juventus, they now have certain rights for the club in PES 2020. That means their game will have the “team name, crest, and official kits.” They also have Alianz Stadium as mentioned in our previous PES 2020 Juventus report.
It doesn’t mean that Juventus’ real players won’t be in FIFA 20. They will still appear in terms of facial likeness and names. EA confirmed “authentic names and faces” for the various footballers. However, they’ll be part of a new playable team within EA Sports’ FIFA 20 game.

Piemonte Calcio will be used in place of Juventus
According to another EA Sports’ reveal, FIFA 20 will feature a club known as Piemonte Calcio in place of Juventus. Piemonte Calcio is completely fictional. However, that will have to do for fans wanting to use a team representing Juventus in FIFA 20.
EA Sports added the following in their site information about the team:
- Piemonte Calcio will be a new playable team in FIFA 20 with a custom badge and kit throughout Kick-Off, Career Mode, and EA SPORTS VOLTA Football.
- The Piemonte Calcio club will use real-world, authentic players in FIFA 20 and FIFA 20 Ultimate Team.
- Piemonte Calcio players’ Chemistry within FIFA 20 Ultimate Team is unaffected by these changes.
According to a Gamespot report, “Piemonte” is a region of Italy where Juventus is located. The term “Calcio” is commonly used to reference football in Italy. They note that Serie A will become “Calcio A” based on “lack of official league license.” So far, there haven’t been any screenshots or videos showing the Piemonte Calcio team.
So when it comes down to it, star players Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala will appear in EA Sports’ FIFA 20 game. They’ll be available for Ultimate Team mode and the players will benefit from upgrades due to real-world performance. However, these guys will be playing on Piemonte Calcio in FIFA 20. That is, unless someone finds a clever way around it in the new football title.
EA promotes Liverpool FC partnership
Within the past day, EA also revealed their official partnership with the Liverpool football club, reminding fans of that. However, most comments on their social media post were mocking the fact they lost Juventus’ rights to Konami’s competing title. The EA folks also reminded everyone that FIFA 20 will have a plethora of international football clubs for use in the upcoming game. So one has to wonder if Konami acquiring those Juventus rights will be enough to drive gamers to the competing PES 2020.
EA Sports FIFA 20 game arrives on September 27th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PCs via Steam. Konami’s PES 2020 arrives on September 10, 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.
